In 2012, the most recent year for which data is available, Americans had more than 14.6 million cosmetic procedures (source). Three of the top five cosmetic surgical procedures were strictly facial rejuvenation procedures: nose reshaping, eyelid surgery, and facelift. Liposuction, which is frequently performed on facial features, was another “top five” procedure for the year.
In addition to cosmetic surgery, 6.1 million Americans had botulinum toxin type A (“Botox”) injections. Cosmetic facial rejuvenation procedures have been some of the most popular minimally invasive cosmetic procedures in recent years.
Is facial rejuvenation right for you?
While there’s no arguing the popularity of facial rejuvenation, it’s important to consider your individual goals and desired outcomes before having a cosmetic procedure. To learn more about facial rejuvenation procedures, contact Four Peaks Plastic Surgery. Prior to calling, you might consider the following questions:
- Do I want this surgery/procedure for myself, or in order to fulfill the ideal image that someone else has for me?
- What do I want to achieve with my facial rejuvenation procedure?
- Is this procedure the best way to go about attaining the new look I desire?
- How realistic are my expectations?
- Does the potential benefit outweigh the potential risk of this procedure?
- Am I a potential candidate for this procedure?
Dr. Burt Faibisoff, board-certified plastic surgeon, can discuss these issues and your treatment options in depth with you. Please see below to learn more about a few of the facial rejuvenation procedures offered at Four Peaks Plastic Surgery.
An eyebrow lift, or forehead lift, minimizes the creases, wrinkles or frown lines that appear across the forehead or at the bridge of the nose; this procedure can also reposition a low or sagging eyebrow. Raising the eyebrow provides a more alert and youthful position.
Patients are provided intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Surgery may involve small incisions within the hairline, at the temples, or in the scalp to help minimize visible scarring.
Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Eyelid surgery (also known as blepharoplasty) improves the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Generally, patients for this procedure are 35 years or older with droopy or sagging eyelids. As people age, their eyelids stretch, muscles weaken, and fat accumulates around the eyes, causing prominent “bags” or excess skin.
Patients are provided intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Surgery may involve small incisions that are designed to conceal scars within the natural structures of the eyelid. Learn more about eyelid surgery at Four Peaks Plastic Surgery.
Facelift Surgery (Rhytidectomy)
Facelift surgery is designed to smooth the loose skin on the face and neck, and to reduce the visible signs of aging to provide a more youthful appearance. A facelift can lessen or remove:
- Sagging portions of the mid-face.
- Deep creases below the lower eyelids.
- Deep creases along the nose extending to the corner of the mouth.
- Fat that has fallen or is displaced.
- Drooping of the lower cheek, caused by a loss of muscle tone.
- Loose skin and excess fatty deposits under the chin and jaw (i.e. double chin)
Facelifts involve making an incision around the natural contour of the ear and earlobe along the hairline, which helps minimize visible scarring. Neck lifts involve a small incision under the chin.
BOTOX injections are an FDA-approved method for reducing unwanted facial lines and wrinkles. BOTOX can be used in the face, neck, chin, eyelids, and elsewhere in the body. The results are apparent within days and may last for up to four months. Many patients at Four Peaks Plastic Surgery take advantage of this procedure for the firm, youthful look it gives to the face. Juvéderm XC is the only FDA-approved hyaluronic acid (HA) filler that lasts for up to one year. A non-surgical treatment option, Juvéderm XC requires just a single injection of gel for long-lasting results. Many patients prefer this personalized, safe, and effective treatment option because it can be done as an in-office procedure.
